I may be a few months late on this but this is certainly one of the stronger releases I've heard in a while and I thought it deserved some attention. This is the second album from one of Huevos Rancheros' guitarists and it's low on the reverb in favor of a stripped, raw rock & roll sound. I think it hits a really good balance between fancy guitar play and melodic sensibility, not to mention a few moments of incredible crunch when they want to pull it out. That sound is complemented by an excellent recording quality that manages to keep that edge without dipping into lo-fi territory. The Myspace below doesn't give you a very good idea.

While I think it's an excellent album, I don't think it has the variety of sound that their previous album Avanti had (nor its Spaghetti Western leanings). Not to mention, their Cecilia Ann cover they use as a theme for the album doesn't do enough to let it stand out from the Pixies cover we've all heard. That said, there's not a single track I felt the urge to skip over.

Given the Huevos Rancheros connection I would expect to hear some more rumblings about these guys. Any thoughts?

Storm Surge of Reverb: Surf & Instro Radio

I love this band.I too got this album recently, and totally agree it doesn't have the stand out tracks from their previous album. With that having been said it still blows away most instro albums i've heard recently.I've heard from a friend of Brent Cooper's that Huevos Rancheros have gotten back together with the original Huevos bassist and drummer, and are working on new material,As a HUGE fan of the band I'm really hoping this is true Thumbs Up
If not I'll be totally satisfied with the whole Ramblin' Ambassadors thing Brent's got goin' on.

Reverb, It's A Way Of Life!

I too have the Avanti cd and liked it alot,
heard about a 2nd one coming out, but didn't really follow up on it.

that would be great if the Huevos got back together.

if you're a used-shoppin' cheapskate like me Amazon has the new album for like 2 bucks (before shipping)
