Awesome. Yeah, we're playing as a four piece at the moment. We're looking for a fifth guy that can play keys and guitar. Or even a boss sax player. If you're out there send me a PM!

I think the cool factor must be the missing 5th member.

Hey Norm, is that a Classic Player Jaguar? Aside from the fuzz feedback, how do you like those "hotter" pickups for the surf sound? Much of a difference from the AVRI pickups?

Yes! Classic player Jag. What can I say? I love it. I put flatwounds on it too. Has a very nice growl and aggressiveness through the Vibrolux without any of the ugliness or piercing qualities that you sometimes get with reverb. The feedback that I get from the bright pickups with the fuzz isn't that much of an issue as long as I remember to turn the volume knob down on the guitar and adjust the volume on the Fuzzrite before hand. Everyone has their favorite surf tone. This guitar is what I personally really dig.

Very cool tune! I've actually never come across that one. Thanks man! The Green Monster that they speak of I'm sure is the famous Jet Powered Dragster featured on the cover of this Hot Rod Sound FX Record...

Yup. The Arfon Bros are Akron Ohio folk, about 1/2hr drive from here.
The label "TAMMY" was a vanity label created by a local music shop, Dusi Music.
(Do See Dusi)
They would sell you an amp and guitar provide, lessons, and then for a fee, set you up with some recording time at Pepermint studios, then press 200 singles to impress friends and family.

That's quite a deal! Finding a actual copy of that 45 must be close to impossible.

Hey all, here's a demo for an original instro called THE JUDGE. Not surf or hot-rod necessarily, this is a tribute to classic drag racing of the late 60's and early 70's, so I'm calling it Drag Racing Music!
Hope you dig it! We're going to record this and three other originals on March 4th for our upcoming 7inch EP. Enjoy!

Oh, that is so cool, Norm. Perfectly captures the feeling of my high school years, '70-'72, working the concession stands at Lions Drag Strip in Wilmington, CA. My eyes water just thinking about nitro and bleach. On the rosin, under the lights, baby!

Thanks fellas!
Very cool, Rick! I have quite a fondness for that era too being exposed to Drag Racing through Hot Wheels sponsorship of Snake & Mongoose and Revell sponsoring Jungle Jim. I grew up near a track and you could hear the engines in the distance every Saturday Night. More Drag Racing Music to come!

I'm liking that raw, primitive sound and the Drag racing theme. I live about 10 miles north of Sears Point Raceway (aka Infineon) which used to host a yearly Nostalgia Drags, but it's been a few years. However, both the NHRA Division-7 and Nationals come through every year and we usually get out there for the Friday qualifying when tix are cheaper and crowds/traffic aren't so hectic. Friday is also the only day they run at night, which is super spectacular. The Top Fuel machines really light the crowd up. Amazing sight and sound to behold.

Thanks, man! Yeah, the night runs are amazing. Top fuel and Funny Cars are my favorite. The big spots down here in SoCal are the Pomona Winternationals which is the new breed and the March Meet at Bakersfield which is extra cool because it features classic front engine dragsters and nostalgia funny cars. For those who have never been, you have to go to The March Meet in Bakerfield! It's the closest you'll ever get to drag racing the way it was in the 60's and early 70's. I've seen many of the legends of the 60's there. Tom "Mongoose" MCewen is always there at a booth and many others. What they call "nostalgia" racing now has really caught on in recent years.
Here's the March Meet info... http://www.famosoraceway.com/index.htm
