I'm definately NOT trying to 'dis the King of the Surf
Guitar, but I am curious about a couple of facets of Dick
Dale history that don't seem to get talked about much
anymore:
1. What ever happened back at the Gilette Mansion circa
1982-83? Wasn't Dick embroiled in some sort of
"WoodyAllan-esque" dispute with his wife/girlfriend
regarding her 16 year old daughter and a bunch of
divorce-style allegations? Is that why he left the Mansion
on the Wedge? Did that dispute ever get resolved? Is that
why he hangs out at SkyRanch?
2. What did Dick have to do with the Playgirl Club in
Riverside CA? Was he and Jeannie (his wife at the time) the
owners of that place? Did he appear nude in Playgirl, or
was that naked-guitar-schlong advertisement for the place
he owned?
Again, I mean no disrespect for old DD, but I never heard
the true stories about these events...they just sort of pop
up every now and again. There must be some sort of truth to
these tales...can anyone out there help me sort it out? I
did hear the first-hand rumours and "radio news" back in
1983 or so...but like I said, the story remains for me
un-resolved...
