Well, I guess that Amazon dosn't use their own "honor system" as they
call it when it comes to selling items at the price they list them at.
My order was canceled for those surf coasters cds and I'm sure
everybody else's was too. I don't ever buy from Amazon because I've
heard about their poor customer service, not just with stuff like
this, but it took one of my friends over a month to get what payed
for, and she only got it because she called them several times because
the purchase wasn't even in their database. So, I probably never will
buy anything from Amazon.com.

I sent them a nasty email, but only got a crappy form response where
they didn't even apologize. I would advise that all the people here
that ordered the CDs do the same - if there are enough pissed off
people out there they may decide to actually show some
contriteness....

Amazon's "official" policy regarding pricing is:
"If an item's correct price is higher than our stated price, we will, at our
discretion, either contact you for instructions before shipping or cancel
your order and notify you of such cancellation."
I looked that up after the discussion about the pricing error came up . . .
and hoped it wouldn't happen!
I think that's a crappy policy, but it *is* their written policy - when I've
had complaints about Amazon in the past, they have always been good enough
to refer me to the section in their written policy that supported their
argument. If it's their stated policy, they tend to stick by it, in my
experience.
However, I think it's a good idea to let them know how you feel, as Ivan
suggests. Maybe they'll think about changing one-sided policies like this
if they get enough complaints about them . . .

Ivan may know something about this.
At one point, Amazon was guilty of using price discrimination.
I was thinking they would have to adhere to the price listed, but I guess
not. They sent me one of those "excuse" emails too.

A similar thing happend to me with Musician's Friend one time. They had a guitar
case
listed for real cheap (I don't racall actual prices right now, but it was
extremely cheap). I
kinda figured it was probably a typo, but I thought I'd take a stab at it
anyway. Everything
went through initially and they sent me an invoice. But a couple days later when
it was
ready to ship, I got a phone call and the guy was very apologetic and explained
that they
couldn't sell the case at that price. MF has pretty darn good customer service.
A little too
good in that particular case.
But Amazon should have done the same thing. At least let you know what happened
instead of just pulling the order out from under you. You guys should call them.

Had an experience like that with my first and last purchase at buy.com. They
had some computer memory sticks listed at a very very low price with a limit
of 4 per order, so I ordered them. I received an email saying that it was a
mistake and they refused to honor it. They then discontinued the part number
and re-listed the same memory as a new part number at a price that was no
bargin at all!!! how low is that?

My Amazon favorite has been two CDs I ordered back in August. I got
one within a week. That would be the one I threw in to get free
shipping. They kept delaying the shipment for the one I really
wanted, and I kept agreeing to extensions. Finally I cancelled the
other CD right a few days before Christmas.
This happens to a lot of people, I know. The thing is, the whole time
it was listed as "In stock--ships in 2 to 3 days."
It still is.
So do I try again?
