Dear angry Bill !!
i wrote you a really long long letter..but something went wrong with conncetion
and it seems it won't reappear..
anyway- a brief summar (unfortunatelly!)
it's not so easy expressing in a foreign languagaes as it is in your own.. i am
not sure how many other do you speak but if you do, than you might understand
me a bit better!
the thing is that sometimes people us metaphors to express something...
i still think you can play every rock music style with every single guitar.. but
of course it deepends whatever you are looking for ... hope you agree on that !
but if we talk about traditional surf... we sure have a disagreement...see, i
have many surf releases showing and prooving on the covers or in the booklet
that 60' surf wasn't only fender surf- and that was my point. but if you like
fender first wave surf -----than of course you need probably complete feneder
gear (which you have !) . . . although am sure that even you couldn't
tell the difference between different sounds sometime ... what better proof do
you need than seeing stratocasters copied by thousands of brands... and they all
have that stratty sound (or at least the ones you pay a few more bucks) !!
and a short brief on jaguar- i bought jaguar because i liked the shape at the
begining of my band and didn't know what would it sound like (but was happy i am
getting " the surf guitar")
...later i tried many more and liked them more and recorded more and better surf
sounded songs...
ok.. i hope that's about it...
oh yes- checked your samples-- like them very much-wish you all the best with
the release- but if you are looking for 60' arrangments maybe the drums are a it
too loud- and maybe when you record2nd or 3rd album you might remember my words
and try something else... but if you are 100 satified, don't do it :)
yours Robi

With all due respect this has to be one of the more pointless post
I've seen on surfguitar101. You say for surf it really doesn't
matter which gutar you choose. First, I disagree if you are going
for a trad. sound I would say it's very important what guitar you
choose. But, if your going for a more modern sound go ahead play
whatever you want. Secoundly, after you say any guitar is ok as
long as it comes from you heart, you go after the Jaguar. So really
you're contradicting yourself. Replace the pickups on the Jaguar?
Are you nuts? Those are the best pickups Fender designed IMO.
As for your amp recommendation. You say go for a Super Reverb
before a Dual Showman?? Huh? I have a '65 Super Reverb, it's the
holy grail of pre-cbs Fender amps, but it's lousy for surf because
it breaks up too easily. It's also more costly than my bassist's
Dual Showman or my Bandmaster. I think it's easier to carry around
a Bandmaster or Showman just because they come in two parts.
Lugging my Super or a Twin reverb around was murder!

Yes, not all the surf bands of the '60s used Fender guitars, however
a majority of them did! If they didn't they were probably using
something with single coil pickups. Harry Sackrider of the
Sentinals had a Gibson 335, Bob Vaught of the Renegaids had a
Gretsch 6120 with filtertons. But, most of the bigger bands with
recordings out had Fenders. Let me quote Michael Lloyd, lead
guitarist of the New Dimensions, on his new Jaguar circa 1962, "A
Fender - a White Jaguar. The perfect instrument. The King of the
Surf Guitars!" The New Dimensions other guitarist was intimidated
by Michael's guitar so much that he decided to leave the band. I
think during '62-63 the Jaguar was what most of these kids desired.
It was after all Fender's top of the line guitar! It was newer than
the Jazzmaster, a guitar that was used less than the Stratocaster.
I think one of the reasons we see so many Stratocasters in this
period, is because they were cheaper. My father told me when his
dad bought him a Strat in '62 the Jaguar and Jazzmaster we're just a
little too pricey. But then again Mr. King of the Surf Guitar, Dick
Dale played a Strat. But I think he got it prior to the Jaguar's
release, and his Strat was custom made anyway.
Sorry you didn't like the Jaguar, maybe you had it set up wrong.
Funny you should mention the drums, I thought your's were buried to
deeply in the mix, and your bass was to high. If we had a 2nd
guitar it would be alot easier to mix things.
