The New Dimensions

supertwangreverb - 31 Jan 2005 22:58:57

Did you hear? The New Dimensions are going to do a show with the
orginal Fender IV this spring? :)
Seriously, I was recommended a list of first wave surf bands by Zak
Izbinsky a few years ago and I've slowly filled it out. However, I
never did get around to getting the the Best of the New Dimensions
on Sundazed. First, I gotta say Sundazed does a great job with
packaging these things. I ordered the new Trashmen box-set, a
Trashmen LP, and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band first LP. Where
else can you get this stuff??
I didn't realize how young the guys were in the band, or that some
of the "bass" was played on a Jazzmaster's rhythm circuit. If your
big on sugar high teens playing surf music you'll dig this. If your
into more polished stuff you may not dig em'. However, lead
guitarist Michael Lloyd at 13/14 sure plays the hell out of his
Jaguar.

I think that is all part of Bill's "Rock-n-Roll Fantasy".
That's right, a Bad Company reference.
The New Dimensions did "Cat on a Hot Foam Board", right? Yeah,
that's some teenagers hopped up on goofballs for you. A great tune!
I haven't heard any of their other material but have been wanting to
pick up that SunDazed release for a while. I heard it was pretty raw
souding. I agree, SunDazed does a good job with those releasing
those surf classics.

Yeah, I was being fesicious, sorry to force you into that terrible
reference!

Yeah, Sundazed does do a great job! You're right they certainly
sound like they are hopped up on something, and yes everything is
raw. The album covers are hilarious as well. You've got two
stickly pre-teen boys on surf boards surrounded by 3 blondes who
look a little more developed. I don't know which I like better, the
one with her gut hanging out, or the big booty on the back. All I
know is I'd have stayed in the water too!

If by raw you mean them playing in different keys at times, yes it's
raw :-)
