Re: [SurfGuitar101] Klas & the Kalifornia Republic

DP (noetical1) - 26 Jan 2005 00:29:32

Tiki-of-Great-Size:
I hear you...man, I hear so many people whining and
complaining about "California this..." or "California
that...", and how they're dying to move out... but I'm with
you...I never really think about living anywhere else but
California.
I did live in Southwest Missouri (near Springfield) for
about 9 months a few years back...man, talk about culture
shock and absolute homesickness! The beach is so, so far
away from Missouri...I'm getting a tear in my eye just
thinking about it.
I was born in good old OC (Anaheim), and the older I get,
the more fond of gool old messed-up SoCal I get.
Right now, I'm out in the Mojave Desert with the Joshua
Trees and coyotes and the tumbling tumbleweeds and Dick
Dale's SkyRanch...my little Casa del Dave has it's own
special charm. But, let me tell you, I thank my lucky
stars that I am only 2 hours drive away from San Clemente,
Trestles and Surf Rider Beach down in Oceanside! And only
about two hours away from LA and OC entertainment venues
too.
I live close enough to the beach to be one totally
righteous Hodad, that's for sure!
Sometimes, when I'm pondering the imensity and impact of
California Kultur I wonder what would have been if way back
in 1850 we decided to remain the California Republic...you
know the Nation of Calif...what a cool-ass country
California would have become...sort of like Switzerland but
way bigger and with awesome coastline. And, way cooler.
Dude, I'm a total lifer...totally resigned to my fate. I've
been all aroung this big old state, and there's still tons
I want to see and do here. Plus the weather...how can you
beat it?
Oh man, I hope I didn't just bum-out all our East Coast
commrades on this list...well, if they did get bummed by my
ranting, I should just remind them that "California sucks"
...you're not missing anything...stupid
California...totally sucks...
reverberatedly yours,
-dp

Nice analysis. I totally agree. Yeah, anyone can find something to
complain about where they live, but in California, there's something for
everyone. You want to surf one day, jet ski the next, then snow board
after that, it's all available.
I've been other places as well. I love visiting other places.
Nonetheless, I am so used to Orange County because I grew up here and
chose to make this my children's home as well. I used to entertain the
idea of moving, but when it comes down to it, I don't think I could.
Maybe I'm just used to it, but I like it here. Don't get me wrong,
though. I love all those other places I've visited, but that's what it
is. They're great places to take a vacation.
Heck, my parents were even born here!!! I wish they would've been a
little more involved with the first wave surf scene!!!! That's my
complaint!!!!!!!
just kidding.
