Okay, so I have decided to get a reverb pedal. I have heard a lot of
mixed reviews though. I am deciding between the Danelectro Spring
King, the Holy Grail, the Digitech Digiverb, and the Boss RV-5 Digital
Reverb. I am leaning more towards the Spring King or Holy Grail. Any
other reverb pedal reccomendations are also welcomed.
In addition, I am wondering if a tremelo or vibrato pedal is needed.
If so, any reccomendations for those types of pedals are also welcomed.
I thank you all in advanced again. You're advice has really been helpful.
I saw ferenc from pollo throw in good words for the digiverb, which
they bought for the euro tour. I saw them on that tour, heard it both
straight from the showman and through the PA... must say, Im with
ferenc here. While it is not a tank and will not sound like a tank,
it is nothing to be ashamed of. PDM had great sound with it, even if
it wasn't your trad drip sound. plenty verb nonetheless. IF your
starting out and the 300 bucks more a tank would cost you actually
mean something to you, go ahead and buy the pedal. I think it's also
the cheapest one in your list, btw.

The only digital reverb pedal that I'd recommend is the Digitech
Reverb. The Holy Grail sortof gets a spring vive, put still had that
sterile digital sound. The Digiverb, aside from being an excellent
all-around reverb pedal, does a pretty good job of mimicking the tank
sound when playing damped rhythm. Since I'm just a bedroom player, I
actually use it along with the Danelectro Spring King, which has a 3
spring tank.
On Ebay, I noticed 3 of the "Little Lanilei" Reverb Unit
from songworks for sale.
( )
they seem to be going in the $100-$150 range...looks like
$199 new at the songworks site...
I've never played one, but it looks good...is designed
aroung an accutronics 3-spring anolog reverb circuit. Is
it just a glorified Spring King? I wonder...almost the same
price though...
might be worth considering, in fact I'm considering getting
one myself. My Fender RI tank is currently at Mojave Amp
Works getting a badly needed tune up: you know: tube check
and tone/dwell/mix pot clean up...I had mucho crackle and
drop out when messing with the knobs...dirty pots, or old
busted pots...(damn cats!)
the Little Lanilei might be cool for those practice
situations where you're too lazy to drag out the Big
Equipment...
you know, when I go over to my pal Frank's place for that
BBQ and jam session and just take the guitar, the Peavey
Back Stage and the Lanilei...
I can see it now...
dp
PS: ...isn't it sad how when we start to age, laziness and
inertia just slowly creep in and take over...dang!

I was looking at this Tremolo Pedal "shoot-out" earlier today.
The Voodoo Lab Tremolo (the 4 knob version, there is also a (older?) 2
knob version) got the highest rating. I've seen other reviews of it
saying it is very Fender-ie. May need to find myself one of those...

Since the person asking seemed to be on a budget:
i have a EH pulsar and a George dennis ping pong (with included
volume pedal. both cheap and decent i guess... the EH has a little
volume loss in triangle mode, which it doesn't seem to have in
rectangular mode... weird... it makes the triangle mode useless for
live or rehearsal (imo), but the other one works well. wouldn't buy
it again though, to be honest.
the GD sounds plain awesome, extremely smooth. i love that pedal.
both have a funny extra feature. the pulsar does asymaterical tremolo
(e.i. the sound on can be set shorter or longer then the cut-off),
the GD has stereo out, where the two channels'tremolo can be set
slightly out of phase - which provides a beautiful natural sort of
chorusing (and as a rule i hate chorusing effects). it also has an
expressionpedal which is volume pedal when turned off, and regulates
trem depth when the pedal is on.
I bought the gd for a little over what a new danelectro costs - and
it is a much better pedal. my penny and a half.

seemed to soung kind of small in use.The VooDoo labs is anything but
small. It's a big robust monster you can't ignore. Miller

I'll have to second Shawn on the Digitech Digiverb. I
owned an ElectroHarmonix Holy Grail for a while and it
did give a surprisingly good spring sound on the
spring setting (but again, this is at bedroom volume
levels), but shortly before I sold it I tried a
Digiverb in the store at pretty decent volume (shaking
the windows a little) and decided in a few minutes
that it had the Holy Grail beat, especially when doing
the damped rhythm playing that Shawn mentioned.
People have always screamed "BOSS" when talk of pedals
comes up but I have liked the Digi's and even own one.

So I am thinking of getting a Danelectro and Digitech reverb pedal and
using both at the same time. Is that worth ir or should i just save
up another 200 for a tank. Also, are vibrato pedals not needed?
Because only reverb and tremelo pedals have been reccomended. Thanks
again.

Although I use the Spring King and the Digiverb together, I don't
necessarily recommend doing the same thing. I bought the Dano pedal a
few years ago, when I had an amp without reverb (spring or digital).
I got a good deal on the Digiverb, and discovered that the two of them
together will give more of a tank sound than by themselves. If you
buy both, at what the going prices are, you'll be paying around $200+.
If you can afford that, I'd say hold out for a Fender reverb unit.
Lord knows I'd rather have one, it's just not practical in my case.
