I would get the mexican strat. It'll give you better tone, especially
for surf, plus it has a tremelo. Also, it's easy to upgrade later, if
you want. As for Jake's comment on the amp, I would get a fender blues
junior, I think it's 15W, I don't really remember. It's about $300 I
think, and it has reverb on the amp. That should be a good start,
you'd have nice tone and reverb. Plus, it's a good all around amp, for
blues, rock, etc. for when you feel like playing those types of music.
It's loud enough to play at your house, it would be big enough to do
any live shows though.
