Hi Bruno,
You can get the "Original" Svetlana 6L6gt for pretty cheap. They're not
called "Svetlana" anymore, so be careful. The ones that are called
"Svetlana" today are more like Sovtek, which relates to your question - yes,
the Sovtek are cheap, but I had nothing but problems with them, both with
tone and with reliability. I'd stay away from them.
Try www.kcanostubes.com or Lord Valve for
these tubes. Mike at KCA NOS Tubes has a lot of the info on the website,
while Lord Valve sends you an e-mail with his catalog that contains all the
info you need.
Both are good to deal with. They'll set you up with a good set of tubes for
cheap (they sell new tubes, not just NOS). They also good about answering
e-mail questions, although it might take them a few days.
Good luck and happy new year,
Ran

Bruno,
I like the Sovteks. I've used them in various amps and they've
worked real well for me. I completely retubed my '65 Showman with
them a year or two ago and I'm real happy with the sound---people
have come up at shows and commented on the tone. The Sovtek 6L6's
come in matched pairs or quads, and each set has a numerical rating
from 1 to 12 indicating whether they'll distort early or stay
cleaner, similar to Groove Tubes scale. I buy sets with highest
numbers I can find: 10 - 12. I'd also suggest having somebody bias
the amp for whatever power tubes you decide on--- it makes a
difference.

Hi Bruno! I'm not a gigging musician, but I had pretty good luck with JJ
Tubes:
BN
Hi,
I'm also quite fond of the SovteksWXT+ 's.... however, I have used
other Sovtek 6L6's before (GC or GCsomething) and i thought they
where crap. Maybe that is where the whole pro-con Sovtek dispute
comes from. (the wxt+ 's are relativly new, couple of years)
the are also very reliable and can take A LOT of voltage.
best quality/price ratio imho, but it is true, they are not the holy
grail of fender tone. (nor is '76 SF twin in the first place. not to
put it down, I have one too)
In any case - whichever tubes you are going to put in there - the
late seventies twin is fixed bias . have it rebiased though, and
while you're at it, have the bias-balance converted to adjustable
bias (or have both. - it is possible) It's an easy simple mod and
well worth it. (if you're handy inside amps you could do it yourself,
but if you've never been inside a tube amp, I'd advise against it
- strongly.)
Eitherway, proper (re)biasing is essential to get good sound out of
the tubes, regardless of which you choose.

I just put some sovtek 6l6wxt in my 76 twin reverb, and don't feel satisfied,
they are loud but with not a good tone,so, will it be better goin 5881wxt?
I know that there are many better brands but now that's what I can afford.
I asked 4 groove......75 euro for a duet.....craze! has anybody any experience
with that ?
thanx bruno wet-tones

Bruno,
You see, this is what happens when you don't listen to my advice...Just
kidding.
What I suggested to you a few weeks ago was to get:
SED 6L6GC - $64 for four.
Or you can try:
SHUGUANG (VALVE-ARTS BRANDED) BLACKPLATE 6L6GC - $70 for four.
Or
SHUGUANG 6L6GC-M - $38 for four (I'm not sure how these are, but you wanted
cheap tubes).
All this can be had from Lord Valve.
The SED can be had at www.kcanostubes.com also (I don't know if he carries
the Chinese tubes).
Don't waist your time getting tubes at the music store, they're not matched
and not tested. These two guys ship intenationally all the time, and
they're quite fast.
If you want I can e-mail you the Lord Valve new catalog, off list.
Good luck,
Ran

Try some svetlana 6L6's.I tried the sovtechs and they sounded bad.
you have to be careful though because there are two companys that
claim they are svetlana.Theres winged c which claims thet are the
origional.and there is svetlana the company that ownes the name in
the US. I'm rumming the winged C tubes now and they sound like
svetlanas to me,I have two paires of the current svetlanas (the other
co.) have not tried them yet.My winged C svetlanas just keep going.

The "original" Svetlana are called SED (that's what I reccomended). As you
said, the ones named "Svetlana" today are made by Sovtek.
Buyer beware.
