Jazzmaster/Jaguar/Strat Hybrid

jacobdobner - 26 Dec 2004 23:13:35

That thing is a hideous creation. I enjoy the Bigsby. I prefer Dave's
and Shigeo's ideas over whoever ordered that thing.

The guitar shown in the Ebay auction is the wrong way to go on a
Strat/Jazzmaster Hybrid. The correct hybrid, IMHO, would be a Strat complete
with strat vibrato system but Jazzmaster pick-ups not the other way around.

Especially with those crappy Lace Sensor pickups that
that are designed for the American Standard string
spacing. Use with vintage spacing causes up strokes on
the high "E" to be different volume than the
downstrokes. ~ d

I had these pu in my Strat and HATED them once I became tone-aware.
I replaced them with some lipstick tubes, and am way happier!

Yeah, I don't understand those active pick-ups at all. I have 'em on a Ventures
model strat. They are ridiculously loud.

Lace Sensor's are not active, but do use refrigerator
door magnets I think the late 50's Whirlpool brand
sound the best.

I'll be darned. I always thought the lace sensors were active. I'll have to
compare the Whirl Pool's to my vintage Philco's.

It looks more Fiesta Red to me. Dakota Red is kind of a brownish,
"bloodier" color, not one of my favorites. If that is one of those gold
anodized guards, then that is kind of cool. I really despise those
"Instrument Exchange" guitar auctions though. Gee, does it really have 6
strings? And it's right handed you say? Hmmm does it have a tremolo? Why
yes. That table is full of useless information.... They should really
take more time to describe the actual guitar itself instead of the
general "very good condition" boiler plate crap. People actually pay to
use that Instrument Exchange stuff...wow...

If you want to experiment with pickups, the Burns Trisonics are kinda
cool. Best with roundwound strings. Order them underwound for better
tone, because the reissues are wound too hot. Check Slacktone Photo file.
