Hey cool im 23 myself and graduated from UW last year but still going to
school and living in seattle. Ive been into surf for about 9 years but
haven't really found anyone else who has been interested in starting any
bands at least at my age, so i'm kind of the outcast. Anyway, a lot of the
bands that I knew from seattle have broken up like King of Hawaii, Johnny
Astro, the mercury four, plank, the manatees, etc... some of the members
still play but not so much in surf bands ie; thee space needles. Django
twango is a band formed by some previous seattle surf bands i can't remember
which, i haven't heard them live so I don't know what to say, they do have a
website though www.djangotwango. I like to hear some of your stuff, do you
have a site or any downloadable material?

First, let me say I love to hear about the young dudes getting into
the surf scene! Carry on!
Second, King of Hawaii will be opening for Laika and the Cosmonauts in
early March at the Tractor.
Joe Jabon used to be in The Deep End, (one good CD, see if you can
find it,) before starting Twango Jango. We played with the deep End on
our last trip to Seattle in 1999. Twango was supposed to come down to
the Bay area last summer but bailed for unknown reasons, probably
family and jobs, which is what happens when you stop being a young dude...
I hope to meet you guys when The Surf Coasters come up to Seattle in
March. Please come up and say "Hi."

I started a guitar club at my University (Woodbury U. in Burbank, CA) last
semester and every week we learned surf tunes. It worked out well for the
varied levels of guitarists that attended. I'd have the beginner section
learning the rhythm parts and the more adbvanced students taking the lead.
There was a bass player as well. At the end of each meeting we'd have a
guitar orchestra of as many as 20 students playing Baja, Miserlou, Mr Moto
etc...It was a great sound. The students really took to it but I can't say
any really made surf their passion (yet!)
Anyways, if you're still attending college, start a guitar club and teach
'em surf!

So what you are saying is the Surf Coaster and Pollo Del Mar are
coming to Seattle this summer? Yes! I have never been to a surf show.
I will have to miss out on Los Straitjackets in January because I am
not 21. I turn 21 in February but I will probably have to miss Laika
because I do not know anybody who is 21 that would go with me. Where
are you guys playing this summer? And what portion of show do you
play, in California, are over 21. We are thinking about making a trip
to see some shows this summer in California.

Utah, they are loose with the 21+, we usually do shows there on sunday
afternoons.
Looking forward to meeting you!

Who are the Surf Coaster playing with?
