The best lounge surf band?

jsesh04 - 19 Dec 2004 20:57:22

I was wondering who you guys think is the best lounge surf band. I
really liked the Blue Hawaiians and would like to know more bands
that have a vibe like them. Thanks

I really like Johnny Astro, some may disagree that it is lounge surf (it is
instrumental). Their overall sound leans more to lounge but the guitar work
definately has some surf feel. They're not officially together anymore, but
on rare occaisions they'll play a show.

> Surf in Seattle?
I am from Seattle as well. My friends and I are currently rehearsing
to start playing live and records a demo/album. We have 14 originals
right now. We are all in college so it is slowing down are practice
schedule. We all live in Bothell actually but two of us go to UW. We
are looking to get some shows. I don't really know the Seattle surf
scene. We are going to be playing with some friends "hardcore" band
and punk bands. Yuck. But we need shows. We are young, all 20 I turn
21 soon but the rest don't turn 21 for a year, so we can't play bars
yet. If you know anything of the surf scene in Seattle please let me
know. We have a modern/trad sound. Morricone was a big influence when
we started the band. The guitarist is really good for his age. He is a
music major at UW and just know how to write a great melody or cool riffs.

Check out The Aqua Velvets. They're my favorite lounge surf band.
Their fist 3 albums "The Aqua Velvets" "Surfmania" and "Nomad" have a
surfy sound with a subtle tinge of Lounge. Their latest 2 albums
"Guitar Noir" and "Backflip Louie and the Pool Party Pagans" magnify
the lounge 10 fold. Every album is great though.

Thanks for all the great new bands thatI can get into the loungy
mood with. All the ones that I could find with sounds sounded great,
and I have some cd's on the way to me now. I especially like the
aqua velvets stuff. Thanks again
