OT: Sidecar rig stolen in CA

pwrose1 - 15 Dec 2004 18:06:04

Sorry if this is off topic to our group, but a
sidecarrist friend of mine is in trouble and needs help.
And I know there are lots of eyes here from
the central/southern CA area.
The following missive is from the sidecar group
SCT on yahoo...
Anyone with info can contact Vince directly.
His email addy is at the bottom.
Good Hunting.
Thanks for your indulgence.

Dear everyone,
I am now in New Mexico in the middle of a moving
process. I am stuck here until January.
Today, Scott Calvert, a friend of mine, who is to take care of my
BMW75/6-Sputnik sidecar, sent me an emergency email stating that the
sidecar went missing from Oakland, California 3rd Avenue
around Foothill.
We have since checked with both the police and the tow, and neither
confirmed that they have the sidecar in their records. That means it
is stolen.
Most of you know this is my teaching vehicle, and I put almost a year
to make this vehicle happens. I am supposed to bring this vehicle
back to New Mexico in either this month, or January.
The vehicle in question is white, with the sidecar being red (a
sputnik). Its vehicle license plate number is 7M0563 (0=zero). Its
vin #4947155
The picture is here:
This rig probably worth around $8000 to $9000. Labor and
restoration. I spent a lot of time in the workshop to make this
happen.
Please spread this email out as far as possible, and also to all
forums, so that it could be found before it was disassembled or
shipped to Mexico. Please notfy all local groups such as the
Vampires, the Rats, the dragons, etc, to look out for it. Feel free
to do whatever you want to do with the thieves. I just need the
vehicle back.
Notice that since this is a sidecar, if the person stole it for
joyride may not know how to operate and can kill himself very
easily. Most of you know why. A sidecar, like a trike, is sometimes
traditionally used by handicapped person, so stealing a sidecar is
really a very disgusting act.
This is a doubel whammy, since I feel this is not just my loss, but
also the loss of any future students. Without this rig, my school is
in a very difficult position. I cannot really hold a class next year
with one functioning rig.
Your help is appreciated,
Very disturbed and saddened,
Vince
