Jazzmaster Pickup Questions:

gunkadisc - 15 Dec 2004 03:49:26

Hey does anyone know if there is a difference between the bridge and
neck pickups on a Japanese Jazzmaster? Also, I have another
Jazzmaster pickup that I believe is a Duncan. It has a little
sticker on the bottom that says "1BR". I'm geussing that it is a
bridge pickup, but what version? The windings are a dark color, not
shiny copper. Thanks in advance for any info posted. ~Mike

I would expect that the stock neck pickup would be reverse wound to
cancel hum (is there less hum from the guitar when both pickups are
on?) they usually are.
If it is a Duncan I would guess that it might be a bridge SJM-1
Vintage for Jazzmaster...
Hot would probably be 2BR, Quarter Pound would be 3BR, etc.
There is (or was) a page somewhere that decodes Duncan pickup markings
but I haven't been able to find it today.
I put Duncan Vintage Jazzmaster pickups in my Jaguar (does that make
it a Jaggmaster?) about 10 years ago. I would open it up & check how
they are marked for you but it would be some major work to do...
