I just bought one of the early models (light blue burst). I don't have any
experience with short scale 6 string bass's. I would appreciate input from
anyone who does.

I play a Danelectro re-issue Bass 6...it seems like it'd be
similar to the Jerry Jones model. I play the Bass 6 with a
pick mostly, because the string spacing is sort-of close. I
have aso used the Bass 6 for "bass chords"...my bass is
tuned conventionally: E A D G B E
lastly, I have used it for doubling my recorded bass lines
sort of old-school "tick-tack" style. With a little treble
and reverb, the Bass 6 sounds real nice.
The only issue I have is finding strings...Danelectro makes
a nice 6-string set...and I think Fender makes a set too.
I'm not sure, but I think GHS also makes a Bass 6 set.
Check out E-Bay for strings or www.juststrings.com
good luck,
dp

Hey Bryan,
My wife has a Jerry Jones Neptune Longhorn Bass 4 (black - and short
scale). I think it is a really nice bass and it looks killer. My wife
really likes it as well; it is light and she likes the shorter scale.
Her biggest problem however is finding a good set of strings. She got a
set of Rotosound 88S (I think). They are kind of weird. They are
tapewound, but also wrapped in black nylon (!) At first they did sound
kind of interesting, but now she absolutely hates them and wants me to
get something else. They sound too "thuddy" like an acoustic stand-up
bass does. Plus the are really floppy and seem to go out of tune a lot.
So, big thumbs up on the bass, just need help finding some good short
scale bass strings. She would like to try heavier gauges, but she hasn't
had any luck finding these for short scale basses.
Sorry to hijack your thread, but can anyone recommend some short scale
bass strings? What do you guys prefer for surf bass? Flats or rounds? I
think that she will actually want to go back to rounds after the bad
experience with the Rotosound 88S's.
Thanks,
BN
