March 2005 !!!

Brian Neal (xarxas) - 12 Dec 2004 17:24:36

Okay, so I hear The Surf Coasters are coming back to the US in March
2005. Slacktone already has some dates posted with them. The Nebulas are
rumored to be doing a West Coast tour about then. Just wanted to start a
thread about this upcoming historical convergence of bands. And hoping
Ferenc and the Nebulas camp can respond with some facts. If all this is
true, I gotta start looking into flights, etc!
Thanks,
BN

Does anyone know of any dates and locations for these bands?

I am a little superstitious about these things so I don't want to make
a formal announcement until all the Surf Coasters dates are booked and
the plane tickets paid for.
However, if you check www.pollodelmar.com and www.slacktone.com you
will get some hints about the Surf Coasters tour. As for the rest, I
am working on shows from Vancouver to San Diego and as far east as Las
Vegas. I hope to have the whole thing wrapped up within the next week.
Also, keep an eye on www.poprecords.com/surfcoasters for details about
the tour.
Thanks,
Ferenc

Thanks Ferenc! For those keeping score at home, here is a summary that I
culled from all the various "official" sources.
I also heard about a San Diego show, but haven't seen that officially
announced so I'll sit on that one until then.

My spring break (of my last semester, hopefully) will
be in March, so it's possible that I could make it to
one of the shows. When all the dates are added and
confirmed we should all get together and work out
which shows would be the best opportunities for the
most of us to get together.

-Brian, Ferenc, all,
I got a e-mail from Dave Arnson of Insect Surfers. Dusty had been
trying to get ahold of him, but he was away for a few days. He told
me that they are in on the 3/3 Lava Lounge Show in Hoolywood.
Now only if they were playing in So. Cal. on the Sun. I'd be
(not happy)but content on missing the Nor. Cal. shows.

I'm hoping to catch the shows on 3/3 and 3/5:
03-Mar-2005 Hollywood
Surf Coasters, Slacktone
05-Mar-2005 Hermosa Beach
Surf Coasters, Slacktone, Nebulas
According to Yahoo Maps, these two venues aren't too far apart.
Questions for the locals:
What decent places to stay are there somewhere in between the two shows?
(something withing walking distance to the beach would be awesome: I
miss the Pacific ocean...)
Is it practical to rely on taxis to get from the hotel to the shows, or
should I rent a car?
Are there any interesting shows slated for the 4th?
Thanks in advance for any tips you can give me. I'm looking forward to
the trip already.

These shows are both close to LA, so there's no problem finding hotels or
taxis. If you want flexibility, I would rent a car. This way, you can
get around more, see things, and I think it may be more cost effective
(granted you rent an economy car).
Between the two cities are a few areas that are not favorable to stay in,
unless you find a nice place very close to LAX (you can get close to the
beach on the west side). If you love the beach, just stay around Hermosa
or Redondo Beach and drive to Hollywood for the other show. Depending on
traffic, that drive could be anywhere from 30 minutes to over an hour.
