It's the last ride of the year. Friday Dec 3rd, Chicago's favorite surf
enthusiasts, the Cocktail Preachers, are layin' it down at the last
Surfers Stomp of 2004 at Phyllis' Musical Inn. We saved the best
for last and this line-up features, from Milwaukee, the Nelsonics.
With a heavy 60's R&B influence, and their first Chicago
appearance, The Nelsonics include 3/4 of the highly influential
90's instrumental band, the Exotics. The Exotics were at the
crest of the third wave of the Surf Music resurgence and toured
with Southern Culture on the Skids among others. The Nelsonics
have picked up where the Exotics left off and taken it a step
further with added saxophone, keys and vocals.
Next up, leading the surf music scene in Chicago, the Cocktail
Preachers. After a brief rest with the Exotica shows at Trader Vic's,
the Cocktail Preachers are back in pure rockin' form. This
show will also feature the gleeful return of the Cocktail Shakers.
Chicago's best known go-go girls will be there dancing and stirring
up the crowd. Catch the last ride in and DON'T MISS THIS SHOW.
Show starts at 10PM and there is a cover.
21 and over.

I think this would be a great show. Of course I have seen the CP's
twice now - highly recommended, but I got to see the Nelsonics once
about 2 or maybe 3 years ago. They opened for Los Straitjackets in
Iowa City. They were a lot of fun. I had no idea who they were or
what to expect. Their original songs had a kind of
exotic/loungey/surfy feel to them, with song titles like "The
Relaxed Ambassador". Ha-ha. I bought their CD at the show. They also
played "The Savage" by The Shadows. Their keyboard player also
played sax and theremin (he even played sax and keys at the same
time!). A very fun band!
