Any German surf bands?

Richard (errant_jedi) - 29 Nov 2004 09:21:40

I'm taking German this semester and we were discussing
what types of music we liked, and since about 80% of
German popular music (at least all the rock and
techno) is American we tried to come up with German
bands and musicians that we liked. Out of all the
surf bands from Europe and the east that we have, I
couldn't think of a single German one. Anybody know
of one?

The (German) Astronauts (PinUp Records), for example. Released some 7"es
and a 10" in the early 90s, i think. Lots of reverb and humor.

Aren't the Looney Tunes from Germany? Herr Kawentzmann is a member
of this list too....
I love their totally over the top and insanely fast version of "A Go
Go Dancer" on the MuSick Records "Swinging Creepers" tribute to the
Ventures.
Does anybody know how to get some of their releases? Kahuna?
Thanks,
BN

You can get them from me, at least the albums vinyl and cd. The other stuff,
comps and 7''s, is much rarer.
The postage is pretty steep from Germany, but if anyone is seriously interested
I can deliver.
Reply to me offlist.

perhaps not strictly surf as understood by the purists on the list,
but a great instro band, surfish if not surf, fun music, great live
show to, and GREAT humor. goes down particularly well with tequilla-
shots. reminds me of the halibuts at times (qua atmosphere)
