Portable studio, Korg 1200 or 1600, suggestions

surfgitar - 21 Nov 2004 09:43:42

Hello all, I've been using an old 4 track cassette recorder and am
thinking of upgrading to something digital that can burn CD's
directly. Need at least 8 tracks and excellent sound quality. Looking
at the korg 1200 or 1600 models. Does anyone have any experience with
these or any other suggestions? Thanks, Casey

Yes,
The Korgs are excellent and fairly easy to use. I have the 1200 track but I
recommend the 1600 'cause the 1200 only allow 4 simulteneious recording tracks.
The 1600 allows for 6 or 8, I'm not sure.

Hi Casey,
You might want to contact Paul Vandervort for tech questions like that.
Just kidding, sorry, I couldn't resist.
I don't have a lot of experience with the portable type, as I always felt
they too much of a middle-ware thing - better than the really cheap cassette
type, but expensive enough to make me want to invest in a better computer
based system.

Thanks for the info, I believe that a 1200 would be fine, 4 tracks at
a time are all I need. Casey

Thanks for your suggestions; I really need something portable and the
convenience of just having one thing to carry around would be nice. Casey

It also depends on your application. If you are doing solo home recording, then
a computer based system is infinitely better. I use Sonar but many will suggest
Pro-Tools. Either are so much easier to use than the Korg. Computer-based
recording allows for many more tracks than you will ever use, has incredible and
very easy to use editing and processing capabilities, and your results are much
easier to save.
