SURF-ROCK SHINDIG 11/5 REPORT

Unsteady Freddie (schizofredric) - 08 Nov 2004 13:12:43

Thank you - big hugs and forehead kisses go out to:
THE SURFALICIOUS DUDES
THE NEBULAS
and
THE CUTTING ROOM
November 5th - another SURF-ROCK SHINDIG behind us !
The SURFALICIOUS DUDES already have LIVE MUSIC from the show on their website!
www.surfaliciousdudes.com
Hopefully I will get some of this onto my radio show TWANG SHEBANG on the next
edition, along with an interview with LEWD & STEWD DUDE! So stay tuned for
that....BY THE WAY, THESE GUYS WERE INTENSE FROM THE FRIST TWANG!
And THE NEBULAS were dynamite -- sincere high-speed in-your-face surf rock! The
lads have paid tribute to UNSTEADY FREDDIE quite lovingly on their website
www.thenebulas.com -- check this out:
November 7th, 2004: New York City ROCKS!!! To those who came out to support us
on Friday night, thanks a ton! You guys were awesome! I also want to use this
forum to thank UNSTEADY FREDDIE, the first successful U.S. surf promoter for
bringing us down for the gig. Freddie is kicking A$$ promoting this genre of
music, at a time when it could really use it. THANKS FREDDIE!!! YOU RULE
BROTHER!!!
I also want to bring attention to a band that needs it. If you haven't heard of
the "Surfalicious Dudes", you should. These guys are pulling down the covers
with a ferocity like I've never seen. These guys are SICK and they're pegging
the sounds they need perfectly. I heard a version of "Tailspin" by the
Straitjackets and dammit, these guys did it BETTER than the 'jackets. AWESOME
STUFF!!!
as if that's not enough:
and check out what "DICK" wrote about the show at SURF GUITAR 101 YAHOO GROUP:

Subject: Show Report - "Surf Rock Shindig" in NYC - 11/5
Well, last Friday turned out to be my lucky day . . . I had a company meeting
in NYC, and managed to hang around long enough to catch Unsteady Freddie's "Surf
Rock Shindig" at The Cutting Room. Featured bands were The Nebulas and The
Surfalicious Dudes. Both of these bands totally smoked! Haven't heard too much
of the Nebulas, lately - I don't think they've played too many shows recently .
. . I guess they have been practicing and working on that next CD. I don't
think my reaction to their set was a result of my Nebulas withdrawl (since I
haven't seen them play in a while), but these guys kicked some major butt!
Simply amazing - they also played some new stuff which was awesome - I was
really blown away by those tunes!! Rumor has it that those were the "middle
weight" songs from the next release - if that's the case, WATCH OUT!!!!!! The
Nebulas sounded great - it was so good to see those guys on stage again! I
think they have a gig in Asbury Park, NJ next weekend - if you're
in the area - check it out! I was pleasantly suprised by the Surfalicious
Dudes - I've listened to a few of the songs on their website, but was in no way
prepared for what I saw! Full-tilt, edgy surf! They have the Los Straitjackets
sound nailed - wow!!!!!! I was really impressed by those guys - go see them!!
My hats off to Unsteady Freddie, who put this deal together - he's doing a great
job of promoting surf music here on the East Cost (and beyond) - thanks Freddie!
I took a few work buddies to the show, and they were BLOWN AWAY by the whole
thing!!! I was pretty tired yesterday, but it was well worth it - I'd write
more, but I have to get up early tomorrow to go back to NYC for work . . . this
trip won't be as much fun as last Friday's!
TWANG IT
AND THEY WILL COME!
