Valverb? What was I thinking?

Patrick (reverb_10000) - 05 Nov 2004 08:44:15

Ok, I admit it, when I first got the Valverb I liked it. Alot. It
nailed the reverb pretty well, the tone controls dialed in nicely,
the tremolo sounded good (if not quiet as hell, but good
nonetheless). I was happy with it, until...
The Fender tank came. Now I know there's alot of RI tank naysayers,
but the tone is soooooo much better than the Peavey unit. I have the
luxury of having not played thropugh an original 60's unit, so it's
great for me. I'm swapping out the 6V6 with a 6K6 just for
curiosity's sake more than anything else, but to my ears it sounds
great.
There might e something to this whole "Fender-worship" thing after
all. First the Jazzmaster, then the tank....but dammit I'm keeping
the Reverend Hellhound!

Seems I spoke to soon. I have to send it back to MF.com.
The unit worked great Thurs and Fri. Took it to practice Sat nite and
it started shocking me, and cutting in and out, with some serious
intermittent noise going on. I was reading in the Fender Forum that a
batch went out at one point with bad transformers, I'm wondering if
that's the issue? In any event, they're replacing the unit....sigh.
Hopefully I'll have better luck with this one.
Any of you guys hqve issues with the RI tanks?

Zone Fighter (zonefighter) - 08 Nov 2004 10:39:49

Mine is still working fine. I got it about 10 years ago (still has the
original tubes in it, probably should look into replacing them one of
these days.) A local store was blowing them out at the time, I think I
got it for $100 and my Peavey Valverb...
