Helo, I have a '66 Super Reverb that has a problem with the reverb
tank. The reverb justs stops working sometimes; usually playing a really
loud chord will bring it back. I'm considering a replacement,
Accutronics makes several types, and I was hoping someone could offer
some suggestions. I think they make a 2 spring and a 3 spring model,
with medium and long delays. Thanks, Casey
There should be a 7 character part number on the current tank (Mixed
numbers & letters.)
This page will help you figure out what is in it now....
If you have a 4AB1C1B (2 spring short decay) now and wanted a 3 spring
with a medium Decay Time you would want to get a 9AB2C1B replacement
tank.
I recently went from a 2 spring to a 3 spring (stayed with Medium
Decay) in my Peavey Delta Blues 115 amp. I like it much better.
Hope this helps,
Z

Z, Appreciate the detailed info. I pulled the tank but there are no
characters other than the numbers "25" stamped on the end of the unit.
Inside it lists the patents and "Gibbs manufacturing and research,
Hammond Organ Co". I'm going to order the 3 spring med delay unit that
you liked. I'll let you know the results.
Thanks, Casey

The tank I listed was not the one I got, just a general example using
what the page listed for a generic Fender amp (and there were three
different examples for Fender on that page.) It is probably very
important that you get something with matching input and output
impedance and I'm not sure you would measure that without
electrocuting yourself ;-)
Here is another page with some information on reverb tanks...
You might want to try writing to Accutronics
and see what they suggest you get...

Casey,
I've used a '65 Super Reverb for my main amp for years, until I got
more into surd and needed something that wouldn't break up ala '65
Bandmaster which now doesn't work so I'm back to the Super Reverb.
My Super Reverb is like Stephen Kings Christine. When I bought a
stand alone reverb tank unit the reverb stopped working on my Super.
When I bought the Bandmaster the Super starting making strange
noises. The only replacement tank I would offer you is to go out and
by a seperate unit which would be costly. I tried one of those 3
spring tanks and it still wasn't enough.
If you want to try and fix that tank you have, I'd recommend taking
the tank out of the bag in the bottom and checking the rca
connections. Wouldn't hurt trying new rca cords as well. When mine
wasn't working I had a similar problem to you. I'd have to hit
really loud fast chords to kick the reverb on. After I replaced the
rca cords it worked.

Supertwang,
Thanks for your suggestions. These old amps can be kind of quirky but
I really love the sound of those 4x10 inch speakers!
I have replaced the cables - didn't help. I believe there might be a
problem with the rca plugs and I will resolder them today. I read
somewhere that someone who replaced their reverb with a 3 spring unit
believed it caused the tone to degrade - anyone notice a problem like
that?

Hello, Ampwares suggested the Accutronics long delay, 2 spring tank
for my Super Reverb. Put it and it sounds OK, maybe just a little
"clanky", not quite as clean as the original tank, but definitely OK.
