I'm running my Valver direct into my Hellhound head, and lately I've
been getting some pretty harsh residual highs (shrill!). Obviously,
doing surf, I dial it in pretty wet. It seems like when I try to dial
out on the shrillness the eq, all I do is muddy up the tone, and it
never really goes away. At first I thought it might be the CIJ pups
on the Jazzmaster, but it does this with my Gretsch, too. I ordered
some replacement preamp tubes (I have no idea how old the ones in
there are, as I bought it used). Might this solve the problem, or
what else might I look for? For those of you guys who use these, what
are your settings like?
