Basically, you want a clean tone with lots of treble and of course lots of
reverb. If your amp doesn't have reverb, you'll have to buy a TUBE reverb unit.
The only pedal you might want is an echo pedal, but that's just optional. If you
do use echo, don't over do it. Does your amp have a master volume? If so, don't
run the pre-gain volume high enough to overdrive the amp. And take it easy on
the mid-range if your amp has that too. Just a little.
Keep in mind that the surf sound is not a complicated one. Clean and loud with
lots of treble. You can get that from any amp, but you must have reverb!! It
defines us.

hi miller here. run you eq pretty flat you want your low strings to
have a piano tone but your hi strings shouldn't shred brain matter
a clean but punchy amp is best i run my hot rod delux on the drive
channel but set the gain so if i play easy its fat and clean but if i
dig in hard it drives just a hair.and it can't be said enuff
reverb, reverb ,reverb.skip the delay when i added my fender reverb i
dropped my boss delay.a fender reverb box is the surf effect.did i
mention a tube amp .6V6 or 6L6 power tubes sound the best to my ears.
vintage is nice but not nessasary.
