Just wondering how many board members have picked up the Smile album
by Brian Wilson. This album was supposed to be The Beach Boys answer
to Sgt. Peppers. (which was The Beatles answer to Pet Sounds) After a
37 year delay in its release I find it quite a breakthrough album. I
learned to play guitar with The Ventures and about harmony from Brian
Wilson and The Beach Boys. Wilsons in both groups.......a
coincedence?????
Yes, I picked up Smile. I find it stunning in it's production and wonderful
harmony (odd I should say wonderful, "Wonderful" is one of the best tracks). I
find many of songs are too disjointed to say that it ever would have been
favorable to Sgt. Pepper. Sgt. Pepper didn't have any hits, but the songs had
clear beginning middles and ends and were therefore more accessible to the
average listener. Smile comes off a bit too far out.
