Ace of Spades tab (lame attempt)

Richard (errant_jedi) - 29 Sep 2004 18:46:15

Hey Patrick, welcome to the ranks of the inadequate.
I shall now put my own inadequacey under the light of
the scrutiny of our peers here and put down what I
think is kind of, sort of, almost but not quite a tab
for Ace of Spades. I haven't got the timing properly
tabbed, but these are all the parts that I play and
they're in order. Some of it doesn't sound right to
me but it's as close as I can get to my own ear.
(h) means hammer-on
(p) means pull-off
x means mute/don't play
(b) means bend
The three opening chords: Fmaj, Gmaj and Amaj, either
played in the open position or barred, whichever you
prefer-I believe the rythm guitar is playing an A over
this.
e--1-----3-----5------------------------
B--1-----3-----5------------------------
G--2-----4-----6-- x2---------------7---
D--3-----5-----7--------------------7---rythm goes to
D
A--3-----5-----7-----7-----7----7---5---then back to A
E--1-----3-----5-----5--(h)8-(p)5-------
Repeat the first three chords twice more, then
e---------------------------------13------------------
B---15-15-13-15-15-13-15-15-13-15---------------------
G-------------------------------------17-17-15-17-17-15
D-----------------------------------------------------
A-----------------------------------------------------
E-----------------------------------------------------
e-----------------------x
B-----------------------x
G-17-17-15-17-15-17-15--6 Repeat whole first part
again
D-----------------------7 then this entire part again
A-----------------------7 then...
E-----------------------5
e----------------------------
B----------------------------
G---------------------------- Repeat then move it up
D-44444444444---------------- one string
A-44444444444-------0--2--0--
E-22202220222-0--2-----------
e----------------------------
B----------------------------
G-44444444444---------------- Repeat then repeat the
D-44444444444-------0--2--0-- previous part again then
A-22202220222-0--2----------- repeat this part again
E-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x
Then it goes back to the high part on the high strings
and repeat the first three chords again. The last
lick is on the low E string
E--7777(b)-(p)555555-(h)7(b)----7777(b)-55-3-0----
The last lick is pretty muddy and I think goes out on
an strummed E power chord.
And this, gentlemen, is why you should participate in
Brian's collaborative tabbing endeavor: to keep people
like me from posting tabs to the internet. ;)

Hey Richard,
Thanks a ton. I get lost with chords like crazy.
Maybe it is a genetic audio defect, but I cannot hear
and translate them at all. You've given me a great
place to start.
On the upside of all this, sure I'll never play in
front of an audience larger than my three year old and
two month old, but at least they enjoy it. Now if I
could get the picks out of the three year old's
mouth... In the end it is all right being inadequate.
Patrick.

Re: Link Wray touring
Has anyone seen him live?
I've heard he has hired several American musicians for his backing band,
relies on them or the venue for his gear, and ends up playing a lot of the
same songs over during his encore. Most show reports I've seen are very
positive however.
Can you imagine schlepping around in a van, gigging when you are 70+ years
old? Gotta hand it to him...
Still, I'd love to see him. He came within 3.5 hours driving distance of me
a year or two ago and I didn't go. What was I thinking?

Hey Sal, let me know how correct that tab sounds to
you. It's one of the first ones I've done without any
help and I'm not 100% sure about everything.
Somebody had posted something about Link doing some
American dates in '05. Are these posted anywhere?
I'll wind up flying somewhere to see him probably, but
I've got to. I don't know how many more chances I'll
have to catch him.

Richard,
The only date for Link that I know of in 2005 is the massive 50's festival
at a casino in Wisconsin.
Check this link (err...pun intended) for more details:
Los Straitjackets will be there amongst many others.
Jerry Lee! Ike Turner!
Deke Dickerson...
