Wow! I LOVE this CD! I am admittedly a more traditional surf-music
type of guy, but Pollo Del Mar's new CD is a total hit with me. This
CD oozes with creativity, polish, style, emotion, and top notch
musicianship. Pollo Del Mar have really come into their own here.
Amazing. My current favorite song is "A Flash of Green", but this is
probably only because I heard it when I saw PDM during the Surf
Coasters vacation this last spring. I am sure as I get more familiar
with the material my favorites will change.
On "A Flash of Green", the song starts out with some basic surfy
elements: the drum beat, reverb, the muted guitar, but when the
chorus hits the drums pick up and this modern sounding but totally
joyful guitar part swells up and takes you out soaring into the
upper atmosphere. Whew, what a rush!
And Dripping Springs, TX, with it's cowboy flavor, the violence of
Red Asphalt,...and on an on. There is so much good music to get into
here, I look forward to listening to this often. The songs are
rooted in surf, but have a psychedelic, futuristic edge on them. The
guitars leave a smoke trail; this is the best way I can describe
it...they are ethereal and haunting, but can rip and rawk as needed.
The songwriting is very complex and intricate, and able to convey
lots of images and moods.
Plus the CD has a very cool Quicktime video, so pop it into your
computer and watch. All bands should start doing this...great idea.
Highly recommended.
