Museum review Good? Bad?

surfneptune - 19 Sep 2004 15:17:02

Is this a good review or a bad review?
I mean do you include stuff like this in a press kit?
Your opinion would be greatly appreciated

It's a weather report. But it does show you guys have stamina on a hot day!=

The OC Weekly is a pretty cool alternative paper, I'd say stick it in. It =
can't hurt ya.

I used to intern for the Weekly, about a year and a half ago. Usually
when Ziegler reviews a non-punk band, he mentions the viability of
suicide (see the recent Bay City Rollers review he wrote), so I'd
definitely consider it a good review.
Good luck working any of it into the press kit, though.

That all sounds like intentional garble to me. This
guy comes off as pretentious, but I guess that since
he did say some nice (?) stuff I'd include it.
Getting reviewed is getting reviewed, meaning that
somebody thought enough about the experience of seeing
you to write about it and put somewhere for other
people to read. This guy doesn't exactly seem like
the type of give sterling reviews and from that one I
don't think I'd want him to write a review of my band.

It sounds to me like the reviewer is more trying to impress his
readers with how hip and oh-so-cool he is rather than to actually
review the show. Nice photo though.

Tom,
Believe or not this is a really positive review... the guy watched the
whole show, if he didn't dig it he would have left. But, he wasn't
just reviewing you, but the whole scene, and especially the
non-committed surf fan who only knows "Miserlou" (a song that I am
sure was nt in your set that day!) So, he liked the music and the
band, but clearly is a little jaded to the OC scene. Definitely put
it in the kit.

Your press kit could go with a selective excerpt. For example:
The OC Weekly raves: "a manly dedication to orthodox consistency—that
guitar tone was probably the cleanest thing Huntington's seen since
they got the flush turlets installed upstream."

Thanks to all for your help... after reading it a million times, I
think it is a postive review, even though we were compared to
feces in the pipe.... But considering this reviewers past work...
we rate!!! Heck he didn't say he would kill himself. Thanks to big
Tiki Dude, who was overheard saying "killer set" You have a
future in sound bites my man!
In the kit it goes.
thank you
tom
