I know that you've already discounted buying an MIA
because you don't want to wait, but you gotta
think...after you've bought the MIJ and paid to do all
the stuff you want to do to it, it might have even
been cheaper to find a used MIA Jazzmaster. The thing
about buying on eBay is that it tends to keep the
price of the budget guitars like Mexican and Japanese
models up closer to new-cost while the American models
seem to depreciate a little more, relatively speaking.
So let's guesstimate $800 or $900 for a used MIA
Jazzmaster plus shipping and if you want a '66 RI
Jazzmaster from Japan with the block inlays it's going
to run you around $885 plus another $125 or so in
shipping and they don't have the color that you want.
A new '62 RI JM66-80 will be $585 plus around $125
shipping, which already puts you in the ballpark of
used MIA price, but they're available in almost any
color you want. Add to that the price of OEM Fender
pickups or Duncans and you've got your MIA model. In
my opinion there's no reason to buy a MIJ Jazzmaster
on eBay right now for what I see them going for when
you can order one from Ishibashi.
It depends on just exactly what you want, I guess.
What exactly do you want, finish-wise? Was it
Sherwood Green you were looking for?
