Hey Group!
I've been writing alot of my own stuff as of late and I want to
record an album of my own. Can anybody give me a good idea of what is
the best and relatively inexpensive home recording equipment out
there? Nothing too fancy, I'm just looking for a 4-track.

Hi Chad, if you already have a computer and a halfway decent sound card you
can get some pretty good results going that route. There's lots of software
out there that ranges from free to very expensive. I bought Cool Edit 2000
with the 4 track studio option...it was like $70 or so at the time. You just
have to buy a pretty good microphone (which you would have to do anyway
going the standard tape route). Or you can plug in directly fairly easily if
you just want to record guitar/bass/drum machine. I suspect live drums would
be a bit more challenging.
Going the other way, I have seen those entry level 4-tracks drop to around
$100...but have no experience with them. I too would like to hear about
those.

Well, you have a computer and I assume you have a
sound card. Just buy a big to small (1/4inch to
headphone size) cable to connect your amp to your
computer or just mic your amp. Download a mutlitrack
mixing/editting program and you can record and dub to
yourself. Then you can make midi/tracked drum tracks
with programs like ModPlug (which you can also
download for free).
It's as easy as that.
