Re: Helpful Biz Stuff for Everyone

Poseidon Surfband (poseidonsurfband) - 24 Jul 2004 18:30:24

Hey, Good luck w/ the Casinos!
You can get some general contract forms online sometimes: and edit as you wish. Might
be worth joining that site for the full digs.
Trademark your name: unless its simply a
matter of clubs and not releasing any cd's or merch. Otherwise, do it before a
big record company tries to sue you!
You can go online to register your band name: This is
different than a trademark, but can help cover your ass.
And, you might take 20 bucks and get a website reserved with the band's name: for instance. You would
also benefit by having an online presence to put mp3 samples on your site, that
would be on your business card. Business cards don't make any noise, but mp3's
do. Who the heck wants to carry around a box of sample cd's? You can also put a
downloadable Press Kit, and your Rider and contract form there for clubs to get.
Hell, make them do the work. "Go to my website and fax it back to me,". Also get
your free efax.com number and you get faxes via email, and print them off your
pc. Have cd's and merch? Set up an account with and link it to Amazon.com. See
my old band's site at on how a site could flow. Heck,
check out my old mp3's! Its not surf though,,,,
Really,,,,there is no need for agents and managers(insert Satan icon here) when
you are starting out.
OK,,,,so I am using the above as examples. I do not endorse any of these
personally, BUT, to get the skinny on how it might get done right, I highly
recommend Tim Sweeny's books and his site . It
isn't neccessary to enlist his services right away, but each guy(or girl) in the
band get one of his books, and like a good 12 step program, make the book
research part of your band meetings. Do what it says and be honest with yourself
and other bandmates, and you'll succeed. I promise. You can get most of his
books at your local Border's and Barnes & Nobles. My old band worked with him
and had alot of successes.
I know,,,,,'well smart-ass what are you doing now? Why ain't your ass on tour or
MTv?" Simple answer that plagues most good bands and marriages,,,we broke up.
Go go girls? Lessee,,,,,,wives, girfriends, strip clubs, and,,,,,,,,
Anyway, there is more than one way to skin a cat, so mabye start here,,,,,,
OK,,,,,for the preceeding free advice, send a check or money order in the amount
of 20 dollars or more to,,,,,,,,,,,(ha ha),,,,

We have started a surf band here in Denver Colorado and we have
played out around 7 times mostly partys.
We have some great offers coming up playing at a casino in Central
City and opening for some really established local crews.
My question goes out to the bands that have been out, played alot
and are established.
What have you done to protect your band name?
Also , what kind of contract do you have with wherever or whoever
your playing with.
1 more. Where do you look for some Go Go girls.
Any help would be great from anyone.........Thanks , Maui
