Attention all gear-gurus I need help with a buzz...

troublewithtreble - 19 Jul 2004 20:24:46

Hi all, I have a friend that could use some help from all you tech-
heads (you know who you are!) :)
He says:
"I have a question about buzz or hum. I've got it, and I don't want
it.
My gear is a Carvin 5 string active (Bunny Brunell series, very
sweet), 600 watt Fender bass head, and a Crate 2x10 with a horn. I
was thinking that the buzz was coming from my head... would get it
really bad in some of the practice rooms and venues we play in, and
not at all in others... so figured bad grounding on the electrical
or something. I even went out and bought a Hum-X, but it didn't help
at all. Would still get it when I turned off the active pickups.
Then I played a gig the other night that had their own backline, so
I played through someone else's gear (and even used a different
instrument cable than usual), and got that damn buzz. So now I'm
thinking its the bass. I've opened it up before, and the electronics
cavity is fully shielded. I LOVE this instrument, it plays like
butter and I often get comments like "wicked tone" :) Anyway, so if
you have any ideas on something I should check for with the
instrument's electronics or anything else I can do, let me know.
I'm not a tech head, just a player :) thanks!"
Anyone...anyone...anyone at all?
Thank you!!
Shari
