The guy in the local surf band here plays one of
these. I had always liked it and finally got a chance
to ask him what it was. I've never seen another one
like it. They were apparently made in the mid 60's.
Anybody ever seen another one?
Richard

They can be seen on the internet. It looks like any number of Strat take-offs of
the '60's such as the Tiescos.

My brother has a Framus bass, which he happens to like a lot (even better
than his Ric. Yikes!). As far as I know, Framus is a german manufacturer
which later turned into Warwick.

My first electric (wich I still own) was a 1964 Framus
Strato, its a two pick up model, so I think the
deluxe refers to the three pick-up version.
I like it, it has the classic JM-style body and warm
sounding pick-ups. The body is on the heavy side and
the guitar has a helthy sustain. The neck on mine is
ply-wood, which never warps but doesnt resonate,
which is the biggest minus with those ply-neck
Framuses.
The neck is very narrow and slim, like Mosrite. The
vibrato is a real solid unit (with a really tough
spring) that supports the sustain very well. Actually
the sound reminds me a bit of Mosrites.
Mine has go the white plastic pu.s with metal
shielding, but the same style was available with black
plastic, and my impression has been that the black
ones have a brighter output, more Fender-like.
It was a very fine guitar for me in the early years,
to learn playing electric. But changing over to
Gretsch, Fender and Mosrite I cant say I look back
very much.
