Les Fradkin & Get Wet

Leslie Fradkin (trackbytrack) - 29 Jun 2004 09:24:17

Dear Group,
Just wanted to take this opportunity to thank Clint Beachwood for
adding my tune "A Day At The Beach" To His Playlist for his show,
which, not coincidentally, is called "A Day At The Beach."
For those interested in vintage surf guitars making great sounds, you
should check out my new CD's which are "Splash!" and "A Day At The
Beach." I use Fender Strat, Jazzmaster, Jaguar and Mosrites to cut
these tracks and if you think a combination of The Ventures, Dick Dale
and a dash of Jeff Beck might be your cup of tea, then you should check
these CD's out. They're selling extremely well and I'm quite proud of
them.
Of particular interest to Jaguar fans would be my take on "Bombora" on
"Splash!"
I used the Mosrite on the Ventures covers that I recorded ("Walk Don't
Run" , Apache" and "The Cruel Sea") These are all on "Splash!"
The Jazzmaster gets a nice showcase on "Body Surfin'" which was #1 at
mp3.com 10 times from 200-2002.
"A Day At The Beach" has a little wider musical spectrum and has a
broader production. It features Fender Strat, Danelectros and has a
very cool cover of "Good Vibrations" and a very energized version of
"Beck's Bolero."
The CD's have gotten great reviews as well. A mix of trad and new.

Thanks to everyone for their support so far!

Les, I saw you in Beatlemania at the Winter Garden when I was 12! I
won tickets in a newspaper contest. I thought your name sounded
familiar and then I came across the program book for the show ( which
I still have ), and sure enough there you are as George. I must say
I was very impressed at the time, you guys really nailed the sound
and the slide projections were great. Unfortunately Mitch Wiessman
was sick that night so someone else played Paul (very well I might
add, but Mitch really was a dead ringer for Paul). Are you on the
soundtrack album? Did any of the gear belong to you guys or did the
producers provide it? It really was a great show, a definate
forerunner to 'tribute bands'. I wish it was still running! A very
belated thumbs up! Viktor

Dear Viktor,
Yes, it was me that you saw at the Wintergarden Theater. I'm so glad
you enjoyed the show.
If Mitch was absent, then you might have seen Reid Kailing play Paul.
Most of the guitars that were used in the show were sold or auctioned
off although I still have the old Rick 12 and it does get used on my
records.
Frankly, I really don't miss some of that gear at all since a lot of it
was '70's vintage and not as good as the original 60's versions. The
Vox amps, while impressive to look at, were made by Thomas Organ Co.
and were a pain in the neck to maintain. They were not very reliable.
I do agree- we were the first successful tribute band.
I am on the soundtrack album which did real well in sales at the time.
Unfortunately, I doubt it'll see the light of day on CD.
If you enjoyed me then, you'll love my playing now.
Check out my new stuff!
Regards and thanks!
Les
