Reverb Tank Poll

-=Dan Ware=- (reverbtank2002) - 14 Jun 2004 13:01:10

I wish we had some kind of voting poll with the list. Here's a question to
all of you:
What kind of problems have you all experienced with your Fender outboard
reverb tanks?

OK, a grounding issue with the input jacks but I fixed it. Beyond
that-no problems. eBay has these RI Tanks for around $250-shipped. A
6K6GT and the other NOS preamp tubes will cost you $40 w/ ever having
to step out of the door of your home (shipped). If you want to mod
the tank, then a little of your soldering time and parts under $5.
Therefore, you could have a NEW high performance Fender Reverb Tank
just under $300. A deal in my opinion considering a vintage tank
could run you $600 and up. A plane ticket for (2) will cost you twice
that much if you're going to Hawaii this summer-whether the weather
is good or bad. Create your own island experience. I wish Fender made
all their new stuff with PC boards half the price of their handwired
amps from yesteryear. Even though you compromise with the PC board
you don't have to pay out your nose if it "tanks" and needs a fixing.
With a point to point amp you get solid circuit construction that
doesn't vibrate loose from abuse -sonic or otherwise. Buy a RI tank
today-you'll be glad you did! Play more surf music, pay less. Dario

Hmmm; let's see.....Faulty spring pan in one and loose sockets....(not
Fenders fault.....)
(bought a Blonde late 90ties for 400 a while ago that looked o.k. at
first glance, until I opened her up....Very bad...
Luckily the seller took it back)
My other expierience includes a Brown one; new '02 that had a terrible
feedback issue, which was brought back too.
I never understand why you guys don't have such issues with the tank....

Jerry,
I forgot, I too had a loose jack. I just desoldered the old one
and installed the new one. It was a quick fix. What was inside the
blonde one Jerry? I have the brown one from 2002 and I never had a
feedback issue. What was ultimately causing the issue Jerry? I bet it
was a faulty tube. If it still does that, swap out the 12AX7 and
install a new one that you know is good and see if that clears it up.
The circuitry should be okay unless someone modded it. If it is all
original-suspect preamp tubes on the Reverb tank or maybe the map you
play it through. My $0.02. Dario
