This morning's San Diego Union Tribune business section reports that
Fender Musical Instruments is up for sale. No other info except that
the company is valued at $500 million.
I guess the big question for all us gear-heads in this group is, will
the quality go up or down with a new owner?

Not again! This is bad news. I thought the new Fender ownership has been putting
out great guitars. I'm wonering why they don't just sell off Gretsch and
D'Armound and whoever else they own and reorganize.

Fender doesn't own Gretsch. They entered into an agreement for Fender
to manufacturer and distribute guitars under the Gretsch name. Fred
still owns the company.
It sounds to me like something other than cash is the issue...

Well, I've got $20.
But seriously, if a larger company buys it, it would
make sense that they'd learn a lesson from the CBS era
and not allow history to repeat itself. There's
enough competition out there nowadays that if they
start to slip, they'll start going down real fast.
Hopefully whoever decides to take it on will do what
needs to be done to remain competitive. I have
nothing but recent Fenders and I love them all.

Well Kiddies
If I was a bettin man I'd say Fender is probing the market to go public with
stock. I highly doubt that they really want to sell the company. Keep checking
with you stockbrokers for that IPO. I know I'll be buying a few thousand shares!
