Bridge update

Bill Bergstrom (surfbandbill) - 01 Jun 2004 00:44:52

Hey All,
Just thought I'd keep the group posted, and continue to tap
everyone's collective knowledge here:
I picked up a Bigsby B-5 tailpiece (on sale at Musician's Friend for
anyone interested). So I think I'm all set to go with that, with the
Mustang Bridge.
Now my question for all the finish buffs (no pun intented) on this
list -- how do I go about prepping for the collets? I know I should
drill the holes before I do the finish, but should I over-size them
to compensate for the layers of finish, or should I just drill them
to size and sand them out once I get the finish shot.
Also, for anyone who has done an Olympic White re-finish, is it true
that you don't need to clear-coat it? I have heard from some sites
and luthiers that putting clear coat on Olympic white only serves to
make it look a little more yellow and "antiqued". Is this so?
Thanks, and I'll post pics once I get everything wrapped up!
~Bill~
