Supersonic Guitars In 3D

Mr L. (c_e_l_t_i_c_g_o_t_h) - 30 May 2004 03:37:01

Hey Guys,
I just bought the latest CD by Los Straitjackets today and I
just wanted to let anyone that hasnt heard it yet know that it is a
pretty killer CD! it also came with this trippy pair of 3D glasses,
nothing major but still a fun stage prop.

It's one of my Fave LS recordings. There's a great variety of very
cool guitar tones, but not surf-y in the classic sense. But they
are America's instrumentalists, not just surf, after all.
Mike
PS: If you like LS, you'll dig the new Urban Surf Kings CD, "Surf
vs the Flying Saucers":

Being a LS fan from way back, I bought this disc a while back... I thought
it was probably their weakest output - sounds to me like they recorded every
song in hopes it would get picked up for a movie soundtrack, which isnt a
bad thing financially. It is very different though, they stretch out in new
directions, some sounding VERY much like the golden era Ventures. Then
again, some sounding like the Carpenters.
Danny & Co. could fart in a can, and I'd still buy it though.

Interesting, I liked it quite a bit better than "The Velvet Touch". I didn't
really care for "Sing Along With", save for the instrumentals. I think their
first CD, their live CD, and their latest go together quite well. And, like
you, I'll probably buy anything they put out :)

-I would assume that's what they are shooting for. Not wanting to be
labeled a surf band. It seems they are trying to do all kinds of
different styles of music. Not that it's a bad thing, just funny
how them and Dick Dale don't wanna be pigeon holed, and they get
bigger crowds and album sales. Maybe that's a clue all the surf bands
should take note of. I thought it was a excellent recording but
the different styles just leave me kinda wanting more direction.
But they aren't one of my favorite bands, so it's not heartbreaking/
or disappointing that they jumped the shark like that.
