Hey Les, great. I've been curious about these since I
saw them. Did you buy it new? How much are they
retailing for?

Those Wilson Ventures guitars rub me wrong for some reason. The
Jazzmaster tailpiece just doesn't look right.
For those of you who own the Wilson Ventures model or a Dillion how
do the necks compare to the real Mosrites?

Bought it off ebay new for $399. Model VM-50. Will also be getting a
VM-75 which has binding.
Pros: The Ventures designed it and they use them. Price is right.
Cons: Don't know any yet. We'll see.
My decision was based on several criteria:
A surf guitar to perform with that has cool cache, is a real
instrument, has a company in business for support, doesn't cost a
fortune and can be replaced, Ventures endorsement.
Taking an old vintage Mosrtite on the road is insane, regardless of
cache.

I didn't buy the one with the Jazzmaster tailpiece. I bought the one
with the Strat style vibrato. Much better for my needs.

I figured you'd be all over these with your Ventures Tribute band...
I have the VMB-55 bass. It was under $400 and it's a real nice bass.
I'm actually playing it more than my Fender 51 P-Bass RI. It's made in
Korea and has a bit of that feel to it but it sounds great.
When I talked to Tim Wilson before I ordered mine, he said don't expect
a Mosrite copy. These have real necks, not the razor-thin Mosrite ones.

I own two original Mosrites and one of them Japanese "Excellent" models as well
as a Wilson Bros. VCM 2002. The neck on a Mosrite is hell. It's too thin, I
prefer the luxury of plenty of room between strings. The low frets work against
its playability especially when it comes to string bending. The Mosrite is not a
"players" guitar BUT it has a wonderful tone and that funny nostalgic appearence
with it's wrong-way cutaway, German carve and beautiful finish.
The Wilson Brothers VCM 2002 is excellent in most ways. The neck is wonderful
with enough room between strings. It doesn't have the tone of a Mosrite but the
overall quality is way up there. I did need a buzzstop for the Jazzmaster
bridge. I had to put the buzzstop on in the reverse of the way I've installed it
on Jazzmasters. This is because the bridge is closer to the vibrato assembly
than it would be on a Jazzmaster.

Marty,
I wasn't aware that the Wilson Brothers guitars were so cheap. I
thought they fetched excellent 65 reissue mosrite prices.
How much was your VCM model?? Doesn't rub me so bad now. :)

Bill

Les,
What category was it listed under on eBay? I've been looking for Wilson guitars
now and
then, but haven't seen any.
San
You search "Ventures" in musical instruments.

There's a real vintage Mosrite at my local music store here in Toronto,
The 12th Fret. The details are at:
It's a long page; do a search of the page for Mosrite. Along with the
details are links to 4 excellent photos.

Dear Group,
Decided on a Wilson Bros VM-65. Couldn't resist the carved top. A
