Hello, I recently changed my strings, I was using 12 flats now I am using 11 and
they feel so thin. anyone use thicker strings? I'm thinking of using 13 flats,
but never heard them before. what's the difference in tone? Thanks Jason
I use 13 flats. They're fine.

I just went down from flatwound 12's (12-52) to "half round" 11's
(11-50) for two reasons. 1) The 12's were weakening the springs on
the tremelo on my Strat-like guitar, and I was using all 5 springs.
They made the bridge rise and increase the action so that the
strings were too high. 2) I liked the playability of the flatwounds,
but I didn't get a good tone out of the bottom E and A strings. The
GHS Nickelrockers are somewhere between half and round wound, but
have a much better/stronger tone for the lower strings. Besides, the
11-50 set has 3 plain strings and 3 wound strings. Using a plain G
string gets a more treble-y voice for the chord swells I play on the
top three strings.
Just my observations for the particular guitar (Squire Stagemaster)
and pickups (SD P-90 Phat Cat).
