want to buy a JAZZMASTER, who/where?

Robb Lowe (robbhatesit) - 02 May 2004 18:51:40

Ok gang I have cash in hand and a burning yearning to own a MIA '62
Jazzmaster.
Anyone have a used one they want to sell?
Anyone know of a store that's willing to cut a deal on a new one? I cant
remember who it was, but about '01 or '02, someone turned me onto a store in
SoCal that offered to sell me a brand-new one for $1050 plus shipping, my
choice of colors.
While I have your attention, I'm always on the lookout for a Fender Montara
acoustic in flame maple as well. They were made between '92-95 I think, made
in Korea.
thanks folks,
Robb

I've heard this place in Kansas gives decent quotes on new MIA's:
never dealt with them myself though.

I know Guitar Center is Usually looked down upon by most people
of the upper crust of Surf instrument consumers. But I was up In
Hoolywood the other day, and roaming around the Music stores and
thought I'd take a look inside, and at the Rock Walk of Fame.
They have the Chantays and the Surfaris there. So I'm inside looking
at all the new stuff, with everybody playing "Stairway to Heaven",
"Smells Like Teen Spirit" or just noodleing away like they are
infront of 20,000 people. I start thinking this is not really the
place to look for surf style guitars basses.
But just before I hightale it out of there. I see a back room with
alot of really nice Acoustic guitars and basses. So I go to see the
nice woodwork of them. And thru another pair of doors behind that room
is a whole Wood barn looking room, with (literally) hundreds of
Vintage Guitars and Basses.Probably from the 40's thru the 70's.
One side is Mostly Gibsons, but a bunch of oddity thrown in. And the
other side is all Fenders. It was the friggen Hollyland of Fenders.
Strats,tele's Jag's Jazzmasters,Mustangs,P Bass and Jazz Basses.
Even a 71 Fender Bass VI for $4000. and tons of amps from little
leather covered amps with a 4 inch speaker to Blonde Showmmans and
cabs. I almost fell over it was so overwhelming. Needles to say,
it's quite pricey in there, and I was afraid to touch anything.
Cept for the Bass VI( I had too). But if you're looking for anythign
vintage, contact them if you can't find it somewhere else, they are
sittin' on a gold mine, but they know it.

E.M. Shorts/Wichita Band is a great place to deal with - I got my MIA Jag there
a couple years ago. Pretty competitive prices, great return policy, and a super
knowledgable (and nice) staff that will be happy to help you out. They'll set
it up (properly) with your named brand and gauge of strings (only a slight
upcharge for Pyramids, etc.) I dealt with a guy named Nathan - ask for him,
he'll hook you up.
Happy shopping!
-Dick

Rob,
I just got mine from Buffalo Bros at Carlsbad, CA for $1150 plus tax. It's
a sunburst, BTW.
Good luck,
Ran
