Ok, my drummer buddy and I are going to put an ad in
the local musicians-wanted section to see if there's
anybody else in town interested in surf. We figured
we'd better start thinking of names.
My first thought, The Stompers. My second though,
it's gotta be taken. Am I right?
The Depth Charges. Another guy in an indie rock band
thinks that just Depth Charge would be cooler, but
that's coming from an indie rock guy.
The Pipeliners (possible weird sexual connotation
though, not sure about that one).
The Secret Agent Men (dress like G-men every show and
cover SAM. cheesy but a fun schtick).
Anybody got any other ideas?
Richard

what's wrong with "The Errant Jedis" [sic? jedies?)
the depth charges sounds too much like the debt chargers.

The Torpedoes
Then you can combine the weird sexual imagery with the
nautical destruction theme.

I understand you seriously want to name your band. I can't help but
offer the non-serious name of .... Nut Rash. It goes with the
imagery thing you speak of, and a cautionary tale of wearing the
right kind of board shorts when you go surfing.

there was a Bay area band with that name a few years ago
Put out 2 CDs.
You should check through Phil dirt's web site before you decide on a
name. If there was a surf band that released a CD or demo, you can
find it there.

Looks like there was a band in the 70's called The
Stompers too.
I wonder if the world will ever run out of band names.
It seems like it must be getting close.

The:
Knotts, Skegs, Drop-ins, Close-outs, Gremos.
Now if it was an all female band: Vibro-Luxxx.
This is fun,
- Bill M.
You can always go to www.gemm.com and plug in the proposed name and
see if any matches come up; in an attempt to be original. I always
thought "What If and the They Says" would be a good name.
And don't worry, there is no such thing as an original idea.
Peace,
Jimbo

Yes, they seem to have been French. Just go to
and plug in your candidate name.
I really should get back to work,

Like Ferenc said, I'd check Phils site, if it's remotely related to
surf, it's probably on there.
How about the Kuks? I've always thought that could be a cool trad band
name, but of course it's probably been used before as well.

septic surf? LOL that's hilarious!
If it's a girl surf band they could be the
"Surfragettes".
they could be dressed like gangsters (like
mafia-type), and be called the "Surfranos".
their Lead guitarist would be maybe "Stringy
Surfrini."
get Julie Andrews on Lead guitar and become
"surfracilfragilisticexpialidocious."
maybe play with the word Serf? the Serfers, or the
Surf Serfs? that ones kind of interesting.
I was lookin at these pages to try to think of an idea
along those lines:
("A serf is a laborer who is bound to the land. Serfs
differ from slaves in that serfs cannot be sold apart
from the land which they work" etc)
the Vibratones. (Trematoes didnt sound as good)
oh well those are a few ideas.

Get the band to do themselves up in blue body paint, wear only white hats
and pants. Maybe the lead guy grows a white beard, and wears a red hat and
pants. Call yourselves the Surfin' Smurfs.
