Hi Folks,
My banmate Hans has a 1988 Moserite (American made). He used to have 10-42
roundwound strings on it. Recentely , I gave him the flatwound Fender set
that came with my new AV Jazzmaster. It's 11-50. The guitar sounds much
better with those, but the termolo spring is not stiff enough to resist the
extra pull, so it has moved to a postion that doesn't leave a lot of travel
(for downbends).
Does anyone have ideas about where/how to get a new stiffer spring, or what
other non drastic mods could be done to restore the lost tremolo travel
range?
Thanks
Ran
Recently i read somewhere (Im always looking for
Mosrite info on the web), that a Bigsby replacement
spring works on a Mosrite for bigger strings. My 67
Combo is fine with varies sets of 011s and the stock
spring, though.
So the 88 might have a spring for lighter sets. I
actually think the Ventures used 010s, I think they
bend better on the shallow frets.

Ran,
There are a few possibilities.
There is now and then someone on e-bay who is selling spare parts for
Mosrites and he has 2 different springs, for heavy and for light gauge
strings.
or
You can contact he makes repro mosrites and he might
help you.
or
you can go to a workshop and have one made to your specifications. Might be
expensive though
I also happen to have a bigsby equipped guitar and I can say that springs
from a bigsby don't fit Mosrites.

He can get a stiffer spring BUT, in my similar experience with a Mosrite
strung with 11's, the stiffer spring was too stiff. I recommend he try
slipping in a fiber washer. I have not tried it myself, yet, I'm still
living with the more shallow whammy setting.
