Surf Coasters - thanks!

Ferenc Dobronyi (ferencnd) - 20 Apr 2004 12:52:21

Many people have sent me thank yous, in group emails and privately,
for bringing the Surf Coasters to the US. I appreciate it, and I want
to say thanks to all of you who came to the shows, (many from very far
away), and made their first experiences here so positive. The Surf
Coasters were a little apprehensive about America, but all fears have
been allayed, and to paraphrase MacAurthur, they shall return.
Now, I just want to take a second to mention something about my
experience. For me personally, it was tremendously satisfying to show
four guys another world, so different from their own, and to hear
their fresh views on the American lifestyle. The possibility of this
tour began 10 years ago when I started a pen-pal friendship with a
music fan in Japan. I didn't really do anything other than set aside a
week of my life to drive some guys around. Anybody could have done it.
I want to encourage everybody to think about the possibility of taking
in a foreign exchange student, or maybe just to take a vacation in
another country (a Club Med doesn't count!). It really is a small
world, get to know it.
Lastly, while I appreciate all the thanks, it was a team effort. The
members of The Neptunes, The Sub-Mersians, the Hypnotic IV and Shig
and Buzz, the staffs of Amoeba Records, West Coast Live, and of course
Phil Dirt and everyone at KFJC, all contributed to getting great press
notices and bringing in their fans to see The Surf Coasters.
