Hi All,
You have no idea how difficult is in writing this post this
morning as I am thoroughly wiped out from the coolest jam/convention
of surf musicans in Leucadia last afternoon/evening. The Leucadian
(in Leucadia/North SD) was the venue and as time rolled past the
crowd became larger and larger and the surf musicians came out of the
water and into the mix.
The group of guys coming to play was immensely talented and
brought with each of them a distinct and flavorful serving of
surf/instro tunes. The diversity went so far as to include banjo, yes
banjo, on versions of Diamond Head and Penetration! Amazing talent!
A very epic part of the night was during Pipeline when musicians
came on switching out during the song (as it was going). The fevered
energy wildly shook the Leucadian, its guests and the musicans
themselves. Flash photography was abound as well as video cams. I
hope that media gets to a website or filed here for all to view and
hear. It is worthy to glimpse into the night that surf/instro owned.
Mucho props go to Richard, Mike, Paul and Joe of the Royaltones for
coordinating/backing this event and the Leucadian staff for holding
the event-which turned out to be anything but small and uninspiring.
Richard got the grease on this squeaky wheel so drop him a line of
thanks for the impetus when you get a chance. All of us were moved
beyond comprehension. The stoke was ever so powerful. The day will be
talked about for days to come. This WAS Big Sunday..... and it sooooo
rocked! JWL (aka Dario)
