Everyone's worried about tone...

jimmywilseylives - 02 Apr 2004 13:07:33

Hi All,
You know I think everyone is worried about missing out on "tone"
and thinking that the strings make all the difference in the world-
maybe. I use DAddario Chromes because they are convenient to get, a
reasonable price and give me a reasonably good sound. If there were
other strings that were identical in price and availability then I
would experiment. I think it is a tough decision to make. I mean I
would have to seriously sit down and try them both out on the "same"
guitar and make a decision. However, if they are really expensive I
won't bother. "Why not?! You'll miss out on the ultimate tone!" So
what. Have lemons-make lemonade I guess. JWL

Well I'd rather worry about tone than open up a newspaper and worry
about this world. I've been pushing the Pyramids and I think they
are great strings. The reason I push them is because I thought
similar to many people on here. I was forced into trying them lol.
However, certain tweaks one can do to their rig to make the tone
change doesn't mean they will play any better. When it comes to
playing live, if your good enough all you really need is a guitar
with decent action and no fret buzz. Unfortunatly I'm a long way
from being that good so I get a kick out of "tone talk." This is a
101 course isn't it??
