I'm looking to pick up a somewhat portable amp with a 15" speaker to use
for gigging.
Is there a combo out there with enough power, clearity and tone to do the
job?
Does anyone have any suggestions or example of what you use?
thanks, Rick!

Fender has a new amp that might fit the bill. Here's the info from
the Fender site...at 64 pounds and 85 watts, this might not fit
your idea of portability, but then again, maybe you have 15-inch
biceps ;-)

New Fender '65 Twin® Custom 15!
Attention all you Tennessee-style fingerpickers and steel men...
The wait is over!
Introducing the '65 Twin Custom 15, a welcome addition to our
venerable Vintage Series amplifiers. It's an all-tube combo amp
utilizing the 85 watt, '65 Twin Reverb Reissue chassis, coupled
with an enlarged cabinet and a single 15" speaker instead of the
usual pair of 12's. The Twin's Vibrato, Reverb, and crystal clean
tones are great as always, and the 15's extra fat clear bottom
end, smooth treble, and high power handling make this amp a
godsend for guitarists in specific genres.
We partnered with the folks at Eminence to create and updated
speaker based on the now-collectible JBL D130F model used
by Fender in the 1960's and 70's. This driver, with its cast frame,
shallow cone, high flux density, large voice-coil, and aluminum
center cap delivers the clean, precision performance needed by
steel, jazz, and country players, among others. The 3-D
separation of bass and treble coming out of this speaker will
amaze you!
The '65 Twin Custom 15 is covered in black heavy-duty textured
vinyl with silver grille cloth and nickel hardware. A metal badge
on the front grille identifies this amp as the "'65 Twin Custom 15"
model. A two-button Reverb/Vibrato footswitch, removable
casters, and embroidered cover are included.
22" H x 26.5" W x 10.5" D
64 lbs.

If it's not your main amp and money is an object, get a Fender 75...
not a world class amp, but it does the job and is dead cheap.
You could also build a (small) cab yourself for a small piggyback set-
up... I for one rather make the extra walk to the car then brake my
back on a box that holds heavy amp AND heavy speaker ... after all,
it's not just the size that makes it less portable...
