Last night was my first experience with the Blue Hawaiians live at
the Lava Lounge, Hollywood CA.
The show began with Jazzmaster-reverberated-chorus-distortion
feedback mixed with Mona-Loa-rumbling-Fender-bass lowness added to
voice-of-the-tiki-god-slide guitar and some un-earthly-vintage-
keyboard cascading around solid-wooden-Slingerland-sounding drum
beats.
All Vintage Fender amplification...LOUD (Fender loud, I like to
say)...but the Lava Lounge is a dinky dive.
Power, sweat, energy and fun. Twenty-something year old females
dancing and gyrating on top of the bar...Thirty-somethings belly-
dancing-hula-hula at the edge of the banstand...guys looking stupid,
drinking beers and expensive hawaiian cocktails...the brave ones
daring to dance with the musically-intoxicated native dancing
enchantresses.
If you ever have the opportunity to see these guys, DO IT WITHOUT
RESERVATION!
Not retro, not trad, they defy my skills of definition...it's hard to
actually describe to you what they are...and what they do...but here
goes nothing:
Sonic-noir-betrayal-dance-in-your-ex-girlfriend's-sweat-music?
Surely...
Feedback-traveling-through-the-future-into-the-past-ends-up-on-
Mullholland-Drive-and-Chinatown-music? Absolutely...
Viva-Las-Vegas-Shaking-All-Over-Sway-Electric-Steel-Guitar-Fender-
feedback-music? Undoubtedly...
a cult clique? Maybe...
a darn good show? Definately, don't miss it!

-Damn, I new I would be bummed when I heard it was a killer show.
But I just couldn't get up the motivation to go after a long day at
work. Got some grub in my belly, and plopped down infront of the Boob
tube, and it was all over. That's the down side to LA shows for me,
Kinda far, and real late, just doesn't help when I gotta be into work
at 7am. I've done it before, but I think I'm starting to show my age.
Uh No, did I just say that? Yikes!!

BTD:
Dude! I hear you...I traveled in to Hollywood from the
Mojave Desert (Interstate-15/Victorville/Barstow region)
for the show...
got home at 3:00 AM and showed up at work by 8:00 am...
I was way tired, but, the show was worth it!
