The Volcanos & the Troubadours, Lili's, Detroit, Saturday (tomorrow)!
The Troubadours is my Shadows cover band, and the Volcanos should need no
introduction. The club is in Hamtramck, MI, just outside of downtown
Detroit, next to Dearborn and Grosse Pointe. You can get the directions
at www.lilis21.com. The cover is only $5. Doors at 9pm. The Troubadours
on at 10pm, the Volcanos Midnight.
Hopefully I'll see a few of you there! Good luck to all the bands playing
this weekend.

Great fun!! The turnout was disappointing, but everything else went very
well. Apparently, the Volcanos usually pack this club (several hundred
people would do the trick), but this time there was another band having
its CD release show across the town, and apparently there is a lot of
crossover of fans between the two bands. So, the turnout was scant. Less
than 50 people..
We had our most energetic show yet, and our drummer was going nuts! It
was a beautiful thing. We were a bit sloppy, but I think the energy made
up for it. The Volcanos were great, as always. They played my
favorites: Riverside Run, Avalanche, and Whirlpool. They played
something like 5 vocals, both originals and garage covers (Wine, Wine,
Wine; Girls, Girls, Girls; Where It's Happening; The Urge; Little Miss
Go-Go), and then they played a bunch of new songs, not recorded yet. A
few had a space theme, and they mentioned that this is from their upcoming
'outer-space period', now that they're done with the 'surf-period' and the
'race-hot-rod' period! All great stuff, featuring their signature,
recognizable feel and melodic structure. We played for an hour and 15
minutes, they played for about the same, and the show was finally over
around 1:30am. Oh, they also played a cover of Sandy Nelson's/Richie
Podolor's Casbah, which was great. They said that was 'their drum solo
song', in response to us playing the Shadows' "Little B".
I believe good time was had by all, and we get to do it again in Indy on
June 8th, but this time with the addition of Destination: Earth! Really
looking forward to that show.
